REVIEW: In 2018, a soaring West Coast Eagles snatched their fourth AFL Premiership in one of the most dramatic Grand Finals in history.

Heading in to the 2018 Toyota AFL Premiership Season following an inconsistent 2017 campaign that culminated in Semi Final heartbreak against the Giants and the retirements of Sam Mitchell and Matt Priddis, many commentators had written off the West Coast Eagles before a ball had been bounced. And after a first-round loss to the Sydney Swans at the Eagles new Optus Stadium, their pessimism appeared to be justified. However, Adam Simpson’s Eagles would then embark on a 10-game winning streak to top the ladder before their round 12 bye. Three consecutives losses following the bye would result in the Eagles relinquishing the top spot but consistent form in the second half of the season, despite the season-ending injury to key player Nic Naitanui in Round 17, would secure the high-flying Eagles the double chance and a home final.

With Optus Stadium having quickly become a fortress for the Eagles, Collingwood were dispatched in a tense Qualifying Final in Perth before a demolition of Melbourne in the Preliminary Final. Then on an unforgettable afternoon at Melbourne’s MCG, the Eagles dug deep, displaying the courage and character for which this team has become synonymous, to secure a come-from-behind victory against the Magpies in a classic Grand Final encounter.
