THE STRING-A-LONGS BEGAN THEIR CAREER AS THE ROCK’N ROLLERS IN THE LATE '50s. THEIR FIRST RELEASE WAS ON THE VEN LABEL. LATER THEY BEGAN RECORDING IN CLOVIS, NEW MEXICO, UNDER NORMAN PETTY AS THE “LEEN TEENS” BUT PETTY SUGGESTED THE NAME “THE STRING-A-LONGS”. THEY HAD SEVERAL RELEASES BEFORE HITTING THE BIG TIME WITH “WHEELS” IN 1961 WHICH PEAKED AT #3 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100. THE GROUP DISBANDED IN 1964.
