THE MYSTICS WERE FORMED IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK IN THE LATE 1950s. ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS THE OVERONS THEIR NAME CHANGE CAME ABOUT AFTER EACH MEMBER OF THE GROUP WROTE A NAME THEY LIKED ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND THE MYSTICS WAS THE NAME DRAWN OUT OF THE HAT. THE MYSTICS WERE SIGNED TO LAURIE RECORDS AND SOON HAD A HIT IN “HUSHABYE”. THE SONG QUICKLY BECAME A FAVOURITE OF ALAN FREED AND HE FEATURED IT AT THE CLOSE OF HIS SATURDAY NIGHT BIG BEAT SHOW. THE GROUP FOLLOWED UP WITH “DON’T TAKE THE STARS” WHICH BECAME THEIR SECOND HIT. IN 1960 A THEN UNKNOWN PAUL SIMON (AKA JERRY LANDIS) JOINED THE GROUP AND TOOK OVER LEAD VOCAL AND APPEARED ON THE GROUP’S “ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT”, “I BEGIN TO THINK AGAIN OF YOU” AND “LET ME STEAL YOUR HEART AWAY”. PAUL SIMON LEFT SHORTLY AFTER. IN 1961 THE MYSTICS DISBANDED. V.GOOD DOO WOP ****
