THE HURRICANES ROOTS GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE 1950s. THEY FIRST RECORDED FOR THE JUBILEE LABEL AS THE TOPPERS AND RELEASED “BABY LET ME BANG YOUR BOX” B/W “YOU’RE LAUGHING CAUSE I’M CRYING”. THEY LATER CHANGED THEIR NAME TO THE HURRICANES AND RECORDED 14 TRACKS UNDER THAT NAME FOR THE KING LABEL ALL OF WHICH ARE PRESENTED HERE ALONG WITH ALTERNATIVE TAKES AND TRACKS WHERE THEY ARE BACKING BUBBER JOHNSON AND JERRY DORN. IN 1959 THEY CHANGED THEIR NAME AGAIN THIS TIME TO THE MEMOS AND RECORDED FOUR SIDES FOR THE MEMOS LABEL TWO OF WHICH ARE FEATURED HERE ALONG WITH TWO LIVE RECORDINGS AND FOUR TRACKS BY THEIR FORMER LEAD SINGER HENRY AUSTIN WHO RECORDED FOR THE SKYLINE LABEL AS HENRY ALSTON AND THE SCOTT BROS.
