REVIEW: Buddy Guy’s Legends is one of the few blues clubs left in Chicago. It was opened in 1989 and over the years it has become has become as celebrated as it’s namesake for providing Chicago with the highest quality blues talent to be seen anywhere. From the Monday jam sessions to the constant flow of world-class talent on weekends, Legends is a required stop for the soul-stirring blues and barbeque. The performances featured here were recorded in 1994.

ROD PIAZZA: Rod Piazza is an accomplished blues harmonica player and singer. He formed his band the Mighty Flyers in 1980 together with his pianist wife Honey Piazza and the band is still performing today. A California native who helped form Bacon Fat with Muddy Waters’ harpman, George “Harmonica” Smith. Piazza only started garnering wide notoriety in the 1990s. The Mighty Flyers earned 14 W.C. Handy Award nominations from 1998-2000, taking Blues Band of the Year in both 1999 and 2000.

THE BLUES INSTIGATORS: Were a four member band that extensively toured the Midwest, performing songs “on the funky side of the blues”. They were a party-rocking band with a great repertoire of old and new blues songs to kept your toes tapping all night.
