Cat. No. 2676: MARTY WILDE ~ THE BEST OF MARTY WILDE. SPECTRUM 551 794-2. (IMPORT).
MUCH HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT CLIFF RICHARD OVER THE YEARS BUT LITTLE HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT MARTY WILDE. ALL BUT ROCK’N’ROLL AFFICIONDOS WOULD BE AWARE THAT MARTY RELEASED HIS DEBUT SINGLE “HONEYCOMB” / “WILD CAT” A FULL YEAR BEFORE CLIFF’S “MOVE IT” MADE IT IN 1958. THE RECORD DID NOT REACH THE CHARTS BUT HIS FIRST HIT, A COVER VERSION OF “ENDLESS SLEEP” WAS ALREADY AT #5 ON THE CHARTS BEFORE “MOVE IT” CHARTED. MARTY BECAME A STAR DUE TO HIS EXCELLENT COVER VERSIONS OF AMERICAN HITS AND MANY A COVER OUT CHARTED THE ORIGINAL AMERICAN VERSIONS ON THE BRITISH CHARTS. THE YEAR 1962 WAS MARTY’S LAST YEAR AS A CHART STAR BUT HE WENT ON TO BECOME A SONGWRITER AND WROTE HITS FOR ACTS LIKE STATUS QUO. EXCELLENT ****
