Younger brother Neil (Hudson) is happy to return to ranching but not so for ambitious brother Dan (Ryan) who wants more. Taking to shady deals, cattle rustling and murder, Dan builds a vast empire and becomes a land baron, defending his ill gotten gains with an army of hired guns. A showdown between the two brothers becomes inevitable when Neil is appointed the new Marshall and Dan’s megalomania takes on dictatorial dimensions.
