REVIEW: 100 Years before the time of the original film Mexico is in the grip of a bandito massacre. Infamous outlaw Johnny Madrid, has just escaped the gallows, taking his hangman’s sensuous daughter Esmeralda. As a frantic Madrid makes his way across Mexico’s parched, unpopulated deserts he also holds a stagecoach of passengers hostage including a pair of newlyweds and the famous true life American author Ambrose Bierce, who actually went missing in Mexico, never to be heard from again. Together the group takes refuge for the night in an isolated whorehouse run by Quixtia, the high priestess of vampires, on the hunt for fresh meat. Once the sun sets, the blood begins to flow.
Featuring the same shotgun shooting style and hyperactive action that distinguished Rodriguez’s El Mariachi and Desperado, this is one prequel that’s better than the original.
