CONNIE FRANCIS (CONCETTA ROSA MARIA FRANCONERO) WAS BORN TO AN ITALIAN-AMERICAN FAMILY IN THE IRONBOUND NEIGHBOURHOOD OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY SPENDING HER FIRST YEARS IN THE CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN AREA BEFORE THE FAMILY MOVED TO NEW JERSEY. GROWING UP IN AN ITALIAN-JEWISH NEIGHBOURHOOD, CONNIE BECAME FLUENT IN YIDDISH, WHICH LED TO HER LATER TO RECORD IN YIDDISH AND HEBREW. CONNIE WAS ENCOURAGED FORM AN EARLY BY HER FATHER TO APPEAR REGULARLY AT TALENT QUESTS, PAGEANTS, AND OTHER NEIGHBOURHOOD FESTIVITIES FROM THE AGE OF 4 AS A SINGER AND ACCORDION PLAYER. LATER WHILE ATTENDING HIGH SCHOOL CONNIE CONTINUED TO PERFORM AT FESTIVALS AND TALENT QUESTS APPEARING ALTERNATELY AS CONCETTA FRANCONERO AND CONNIE FRANCONERO. DURING REHEARSALS FOR HER APPEARANCE ON ARTHUR GODFREY'S TALENT SCOUTS, CONNIE WAS ADVISED BY GODFREY TO CHANGE HER STAGE NAME FOR EASIER PRONUNCIATION. AROUND THE SAME TIME CONNIE TOOK UP A JOG SINGING DEMONSTRATION RECORDS.

CONNIE WAS EVENTUALLY SIGNED TO A RECORDING CONTRACT BY MGM RECORDS IN1955. HER FIRST RECORD "FREDDY" B/W "DIDN'T I LOVE YOU ENOUGH" WAS A COMMERCIAL FAILURE AS WERE HER NEXT EIGHT SINGLES. SHE EVENTUALLY ENJOYED SUCCESS IN 1957 ON A DUET WITH MARVIN RAINWATER, "THE MAJESTY OF LOVE" B/W "YOU, MY DARLING YOU" WHICH EVENTUALLY SOLD A MILLION COPIES BUR FURTHER SUCCESS EVADED HER IN THE SHORT TERM. MGM TOLD CONNIE THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO RENEW HER CONTRACT, HOWEVER, SHE HAD ONE LAST RECORDING SESSION TO GO. AT THE INSISTENCE OF HER FATHER, CONNIE RECORDED "WHO'S SORRY NOW" A SONG WHICH SHE DISLIKED IMMENSELY AS THE LAST SONG OF THE SESSION AND HAD ONLY A FEW SECONDS OF TAPE LEFT WHEN THE SONG WAS FINISHED. NOTHING MUCH HAPPENED FOR A WHILE BUT THEN DICK CLARK PICKED UP THE SONG AND FEATURED IT ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND AND AS THEY SAY "THE REST IS HISTORY". THE RECORD SOLD OVER A MILLION COPIES, MGM RESIGNED HER AND CONNIE FRANCIS WENT ON TO BECOME ONE OF THE BIGGEST FEMALE ARTIST OF THE LATE 1950s AND EARLY 1960s.

THIS "BEST OF..." ALBUM, AN ORIGINAL AMERICAN RELEASE, WAS ISSUED IN 1964. THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (NEAR MINT ACTUALLY) AND IS MADE OF HEAVY DUTY CARDBOARD. THERE IS ALMOST NO SIGNS OF SOILING OR WEARING FRONT OR REAR. THE RECORD IS ALSO IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.
