WE ARE ALL FAMILIAR WITH THE HISTORY OF NORMAN PETTY'S RECORDING STUDIOS IN CLOVIS NEW MEXICO AND THE RECORDINGS MADE THERE BY BUDDY HOLLY AND BUDDY KNOX AMONG OTHERS. ONE GROUP THAT ALSO RECORDED THERE AND HAD A SUBSTANTIAL RECORDING CAREER WERE THE FIREBALLS (SOMETIMES BILLED AS JIMMY GILMER & THE FIREBALLS.) THE FIREBALLS WERE FORMED IN RATON, NEW MEXICO IN 1957 AND GOT THEIR START AS AN INSTRUMENTAL GROUP FEATURING THE DISTINCTIVE LEAD GUITAR OF GEORGE TOMSCO. THEY REACHED THE TOP 40 WITH THE SINGLES "TORQUAY" (1959), "BULLDOG" (1960) AND QUITE A PARTY (1961).  THREE OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS CHUCK THARP, ERIC BUDD AND DAVE TRAMMELL LEFT THE GROUP IN THE EARLY 1960s AND WERE REPLACED BY DOUG ROBERTS AND PETTY STUDIO SINGER JIMMY GILMER.

BILLED AS JIMMY GILMER AND THE FIREBALLS THE GROUP REACHED No. 1 ON THE BILLBOARD CHART WITH "SUGAR SHACK" IN 1963 WHICH EARNED THE GROUP A GOLD RECORD. THEY FOLLOWED UP ANOTHER POP HIT IN 1964 WITH "DAISY PETAL PICKIN'", WHICH REACHED No.15 ON THE HOT 100.

BESIDES THEIR OWN RECORDINGS, THE FIREBALLS WERE STUDIO MUSICIANS FOR DOZENS OF OTHER RECORDING ARTIST PROJECTS FROM 1959 THROUGH 1970. FOLLOWING BUDDY HOLLY'S DEATH, NORMAN PETTY OBTAINED THE RIGHTS TO BUDDY HOLLY'S EARLY REHEARSAL AND DEMO RECORDINGS AND PETTY HAD THE FIREBALLS OVERDUB THE HOLLY MATERIAL WHICH WAS SUBSEQUENTLY RELEASED ON SEVERAL ALBUMS THROUGHOUT THE 1960s.

THIS ALBUM IS AN AUSTRALIAN RELEASE THROUGH FESTIVAL RECORDS OF THE FIREBALLS INSTRUMENTALS RECORDED AT THE PETTY STUDIOS. THE SLEEVE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH MINOR SOILING AND RING-WEAR ON BOTH AND FRONT. THERE ARE TWO MARKS ON THE FRONT COVER AND ONE ON THE BACK WHERE STICKERS HAVE BEEN AND SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED. THE FAINT YELLOWING SHOWN IN THE PHOTO IS NOT EVIDENT ON THE SLEEVE. THIS HAS COME ABOUT WHEN THE SLEEVES WERE SCANNED. THE RECORD IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO APPARENT SCRATCH MARKS THAT WILL EFFECT PLAY. CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO COPIES OF THIS ALBUM ON EITHER EBAY OR DISCOGS. AS A MATER OF FACT THIS ALBUM IS NOT EVEN LISTED ON WIKIPEDIA.

TRACK LISTING: Side 1 - Torquay / Alone / Joey's Song / Last Date / Chief Whoop-In-Koff / El Ringo. Side 2 - Wheels / Honey / Rawhide / Tuff-A-Nuff / Dumbo / Quite A Party.
