REVIEW: When Ford launched the Mustang in the USA back in 1964, it had no idea of the impact the "Pony" car would have. Initial expectations were that they would produce 75,000 cars a year, but just over a year later, they had sold nearly ten times that many. The Mustang legend had begun.
Even though not many were imported into Australia they also had a dramatic impact locally through their success in motorsport. with drivers like Norm Beechey, Ian Geoghegan, Bob Jane and Allan Moffat piloting them, the American muscle cars dominated on tracks around the country.
Between 1965 and 1967, Geoghegan recorded an incredible 68 wins from 74 starts in his first Mustang. And then there was Moffat's red Coca Cola Trans Am mustang that became arguably the most famous touring car in five decades of tip top racing in Australia.. The Mustang story is stuff full of legends.
