REVIEW: Undoubtedly the most consistent NRL club of recent history - having reached an incredible five Grand Finals in the last nine years – the Melbourne Storm have again reached the pinnacle of Rugby League, securing a fourth NRL Telstra Premiership for the club, and with it a place in the annals of  footy history.

In 2020, extraordinary circumstances made the Storm’s success on the field even more special. Away from their AAMI Park base for the bulk of the season, it was the experience and professionalism of Craig Bellamy’s men that saw them overcome immense challenges to be crowned Premiers. With a squad bristling with talent, it set the platform for a remarkable Premiership run. At fullback, Ryan Papenhuyzen’s pace and guile was a constant threat, while wingers Josh Addo-Carr and Suliasi Vunivalu dominated opposition backlines all season. In a fearsome forward pack, Jesse Bromwich led the line alongside brother Kenny Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi, Christian Welch and Nelson Asofa-Solomona. And in the spine, the guiding hand of inspirational captain Cameron Smith, in the twilight of a stellar career, remained the perfect foil to the creativity of pivot Cameron Munster and emerging halfback Jahrome Hughes.

After a second-place finish in the home-and-away season, the Storm were too strong for the Parramatta Eels in their Qualifying Final. That set up a Preliminary Final test against 2019’s Grand Finalists the Canberra Raiders, but the Storm raced out to an unassailable early lead, booking their place in the decider. Against an exciting young Penrith Panthers side at ANZ Stadium, the Storm brought the weight of their big-game experience to bear, capping off a momentous season with a stunning Grand Final victory, and returning to Melbourne with the coveted Provan Summons Trophy in tow.
