REVIEW: Fabulous collection of six westerns on six discs. A good mix classic westerns from 1958 up until more modern times for the discerning western fan.

SILVERADO (1985): Rambling man Emmett (Scott Glenn) assembles a group of misfit cowboys, (Kevin Costner, Kevin Kline, Danny Glover). After helping a group of settlers track down a pack of thieves, Emmett and his men descend on the troubled town of Silverado to seek their fortunes. Soon after arriving, they discover that the town has fallen into the grasp of greedy rancher Ethan McKendrick and corrupt Sheriff Cobb (Brian Dennehy) with whom many of Emmett’s men have unfinished business.

WILD BILL HICKOK: SWIFT JUSTICE – Wild Bill Hickok has faced many challenges on his quest to redeem himself from a colourful past as an outlaw and gunslinger. He settles as a lawman in a small town, trying to enjoy a much quieter life, Marcus Ruby and his band of outlaws threaten to destroy the sleepy town after a gambling dispute. Bill must pull the demons out of his past to gain the strength and courage to defend the place that he calls home and the good people in it.

JESSE JAMES: LAWMAN – When a small town is overrun by the gang of outlaws the mayor finds that they are under the thumb of the gang’s leader, villainous Hoyt Killian. The town’s sheriff takes it upon himself to hire famed outlaw Jesse James to infiltrate the gang and stop their evil plans from inside their ranks. It’s outlaw versus outlaw and to the winner goes the town and its secret treasures. An action packed western featuring Kevin Sorbo and the legendary Peter Fonda.

BITE THE BULLET (1975): A former rough-rider must match wits and wiles against a beautiful but tough woman (who can ride, drink and shoot like a man), a drifting ex-mercenary, a young reckless cowboy and a gutsy Pony Express rider in this turn-of-the century tale of a grueling 700-mile race across the frozen mountain paths and sun parched deserts of the American Wild West. (Nominated for 2 Academy Awards).

COWBOY (1958): Tempers flare and fists fly in this action-packed sagebrush classic based on the real-life adventures of a tenderfoot turned tough cattleman. Award-winners Glenn Ford and Jack Lemmon head a great cast under the direction of Delmer Daves in this exciting, technicolor tale of fiery emotions and dangerous desires. Though it is one of the more unorthodox westerns of the 1950s, Cowboy is also rightly acclaimed as one of the best.

LONESOME DOVE CHURCH: Oscar nominee Tom Berenger delivers frontier justice in this stirring Western based on the true story of the founding of the Lonesome Dove Church. John Shepherd (Berenger) is an itinerant preacher with dreams of building his own church. When his estranged son Isaac is accused of robbery and murder, John puts his faith and future on the line by coming to Isaac’s defence, facing off against a cold-blooded killer in a guns-blazing stand for redemption.
