REVIEW: Another year marks another chapter for the history books of the fabled Mount Panorama circuit, as once again the legends of the Supercars Championship return to The Mountain for the iconic Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, the premier racing event on the Australian motorsport calendar.

Reigning Bathurst champ Mark Winterbottom would be looking to go back-to-back in 2014, having secured a stirring victory for the ages in 2013, and in doing so breaking Holden’s four-year straight stranglehold on the coveted Peter Brock trophy. In his way was current Supercars Champion and 2014 points leader Jamie Whincup, who was on a hot streak with seven race wins since Barbagallo, making him the undeniable favourite for his fifth Bathurst win. Also trying for the title was his Triple Eight teammate Craig Lowndes, who had been lurking in Whincup’s slipstream for several rounds and would be gunning for an incredible sixth Supercheap Auto Bathhurst 1000 title. And waiting in the wings for another tilt at glory were Garth Tander and James Courtney, both coming off podiums at Sandown, perennial challengers Shane van Gisbergen, Fabian Coulthard and Chaz Mostert; and the impressive Scott McLaughlin in his Volvo, which took its place on the grid at Mount Panorama for the first time in 19 years.
