REVIEW: Sue Brewer became legendary in Nashville for her generosity to the city's songwriting community. During the 1960s and 1970s, she became a champion of struggling artists and writers on Music Row. She opened her heart, her home, affectionately known as the Boar’s Nest and her pocketbook to many. She turned her apartment at 911 18th Avenue South into an after-hours clubhouse for music folks, hosting "guitar pulls" in her living room where writers such as Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller, Harlan Howard, Willie Nelson, Dallas Frazier or Jack Clement could gather to swap songs with one another. The truly broke among them could always find a place to sleep on her floor. Sue passed away from cancer at the age of 48.

Shot in the early 1980’s, this 90 minute video hosted by Waylon Jennings pays tribute to Sue. Through live performances plus rare living room footage of all artists in attendance at Sue’s house, the Door Is Always Open is that rare find – country music legends sharing not only their songs and stories, but their hearts as well. Unfortunately, the visual quality is not optimum but certainly quite watchable and track listing is not quite what it says on the liner notes on the rear of the DVD. The track listing has been adjusted here to show the correct listing. It should also be noted that the DVD has been transferred from video tape and therefore there is some flashing in places which only effect the start of the show.
