CHER SIGNED WITH IMPERIAL RECORDS IN 1964. HER FIRST SOLO SINGLE “DREAM BABY” WAS PRODUCED BY SONNY BONO AND RELEASED UNDER THE NAME CHERILYN. THE RECORD RECEIVED AIRPLAY BUT WAS NOT A HIT. HER SECOND SOLO EFFORT ALSO PRODUCED BY SONNY WAS A COVER OF BOB DYLAN’S “ALL I WANT TO REALLY DO”. IT PEAKED AT NUMBER 15 ON THE US BILLBOARD HOT 100 IN 1965. CHER’S DEBUT ALBUM, “ALL I WANT TO DO” REACHED NUMBER 16 ON THE BILLBOARD 200. IT WAS LATER DESCRIBED BY ALLMUSIC’S TIM SENDA AS “ONE OF THE STRONGER FOLK-POP RECORDS OF THE ERA”. IN 1965 CAESER AND CLEO BEGAN CALLING THEMSELVES SONNY & CHER AND RELEASED “I GOT YOU BABE” WHICH REACHED NUMBER ONE ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100 CHART. CHER MAINTAINED HER SOLO CAREER ALONG WITH HER WORK WITH SONNY AND HER 1966 ALBUM “THE SONNY SIDE OF CHER” FEATURED "BANG BANG (MY BABY SHOT ME DOWN)" WHICH REACHED NUMBER TWO IN THE US AND NUMBER THREE IN THE UK AND BECAME HER FIRST MILLION-SELLER SOLO SINGLE.
