REVIEW: As is so often the case, the beaten Grand Finalist from the previous season is the team to be the most wary of the following season and that proved to be the case in ’75. North had learnt valuable lessons in 1974 when it fell in the Grand Final to Richmond and on the last Saturday on 1975’s September the Kangaroos swept aside the years of frustration and disappointment with their first ever Premiership. Ironically North met another of the sides which was lacking the previous year.

With old stagers like John Rantall and Brent Crosswell leading the way, North’s machinery was well oiled and functioned smoothly. It was shutting down Hawthorn’s matchwinners effectively and after a tight first half it hit an overdrive the football world had seen at various stages throughout the year. Ten goals to four after the long break assured North of its place in history – its last six goals of the match blew the margin from 24 points to 61 and made the win one of the most forceful in the game’s history.

The magic man, Ron Barassi, had done it again.
